Job Description


Silver Dolphin Books and Studio Fun International, the children’s publishing imprints of the Printers Row Publishing Group are seeking an editorial assistant to join a growing team dedicated to producing innovative novelty and educational titles for children ages 0-12. Daily responsibilities range from copywriting and editing to departmental communication and administrative support. The ideal candidate would be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities and would be a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is interested in participating in all aspects of book publishing.


Essential Functions:  To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Provide support for creative team
  • Execute copywriting assignments on an as-needed basis for book content, back cover copy, sales and marketing copy
  • Proofread, copyedit, and fact-check books ranging from board books for toddlers to nonfiction titles for middle-schoolers
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with editorial team to develop new title ideas
  • Manage author, illustrator, designer, and agent correspondence
  • Assist in uploading materials to online approval systems for licensed titles
  • Assist in the creation of mock ups and sales materials to secure customer commitments
  • Enter and maintain title information in title management database; audit past information in database for accuracy
  • Print out and distribute reports for weekly meetings
  • Create barcodes for books and check printed barcodes
  • Assist in design-related tasks such as photo and illustration research
  • Maintain database of book cover images
  • Organize and maintain images for Amazon Search Inside feature
  • Assist in routing editorial and design passes from remote and in-house employees
  • Assist in tracking contracts and invoices for authors, designers, and illustrators
  • Assist with changes needed for reprints of titles and custom projects
  • Maintain and organize ideas libraries, sample libraries, and archive copies
  • Manage customer service inquiries and author and illustrator submissions
  • Administrative duties including scanning, note taking, transcribing, mailing assistance, and filing


Non-Essential Functions:

  • Other duties may be assigned, directed or requested.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong copyediting skills
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and online title management systems helpful, but not necessary


Language Skills:

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to speak with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence


Physical Requirements:

  • Work could be performed while sitting, standing or walking.
  • Work performed will entail fine manipulation of hands and/or fingers, as well as repetitive hand action.  It will additionally entail bending, twisting, squatting and climbing, as well as upper and lower body mobility.
