Job Description

Summary:      Under the direct supervision of the Director of Adult Proprietary Publishing, assists in the execution of the Adult Proprietary Publishing Program primarily for the Warehouse Club customers.  Plan and analyze inventory, review and forecast sales, communicate with external vendors and across internal departments and oversees the day to day activities of the Purchasing Coordinator.                    

 Essential Functions:  To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Provide input for product development throughout all phases of production from concept to final merchandise.
  • Act as the primary liaison (for assigned vendors/packagers) to approve all specifications, formats, artwork, layout and design, ensuring each title meets the overall vision and PRPG’s standards
  • Maintain relationships with assigned vendors/packagers. Communicate the evolving requirements of our business, educate vendors/packagers of our protocols and brainstorm new ideas to increase sales.
  • Initiate and follow through on all aspects of contract negotiations and execution.
  • Negotiate special deals with publishers/packagers this may include pricing, quantity, packaging, returns shipping and/or timing arrangements.
  • Stay well-informed of industry trends, research comparable titles. Analyze sales history to determine ideal price, quantity and distribution per customer.
  • Adjust strategy as appropriate to achieve product line goals.
  • Create presentations for all warehouse clubs both domestic and international. Select appropriate product for each account, run all necessary sales reports/information, and gather all selling materials. Identify timeframes and confirm rights. Participate in video conferences for international customers.
  • Administer all system transactions. This will include title set up, placing Purchase Orders, updating information, communicating all changes to sales teams, reserving inventory, monitoring out-of-stocks and creating work orders/Jobords.
  • Run POS reports to analyze and assess all club sales seasonally, thematically , by series and on a title-by-title basis. Review gross and net sales for title and by assortment. Run UPC sales to determine the bestselling titles in an assortment and forecast future reprints for each customer based on this analysis.
  • Work with production in obtaining quotes for new products. Ensuring we are paying a fair price from vendors.
  • Evaluate and recommend projects to the executive publishing board via the Pub Board process. Participate in the Pub Board meetings.
  • Oversee all aspects of inventory maintenance by working closely with the DC (distribution center) and internally with PRPG accounting, finance and IS departments to ensure data integrity, quality control, sub-inventory and refurbishment.
  • Run inventory reports to review owned inventory on a weekly basis and re-plan where appropriate to maximize sales and increase inventory turns.
  • Negotiate publisher buy backs where appropriate and propose non-returnable inventory moves to Bargain.
  • Responsibility for title spreadsheets and forecasting for Adult Proprietary.
  • Liaison between Readerlink Chicago (RDS) and Adult Proprietary- responsible for coordinating product.
  • Travel to vendors, customer, conferences and trade shows as appropriate.
  • Achieve budgeted goals for sales and returns.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • College/University degree preferred
  • Communicate effectively in person, on the phone and in written form.
  • Working knowledge of book publishing
  • Demonstrate ability in negotiation and problem solving
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • High degree of organizational skills needed.
  • Demonstrate understanding of budgeting, margins and profits.
  • Be able to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Experience with computers: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Oracle helpful.
  • Ability to work long hours during stressful peak seasons.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work could be performed while sitting, standing or walking.
  • Work performed will entail fine manipulation of hands and/or fingers, as well as repetitive hand action. It will additionally entail bending, twisting, squatting and climbing, as well as upper and lower body mobility.
  • May be required to move and lift heavy boxes of books. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
