Job Description


Oversee, implement and execute the overall Thunder Bay business with a concentration on metadata, reprints, and trade distributor relations. Product Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of product schedules, purchase orders, reprints and the maintenance of all Adult Imprint titles in title database.

Essential Functions: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

Product Management:

  • Input data for all Adult Imprint physical books and e-books in the Title Management system (TMM), ensuring that all information is entered in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Research and enter comparative titles in TMM for all front list titles.
  • Run the publishing plan on a weekly basis.
  • Track the schedules for all titles in production and update On Sale Dates, Release Dates, Warehouse dates, etc.
  • Coordinate launch meetings and sales conferences by gathering sales materials, samples, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Enter Bind Orders in trade distributor's system in a timely manner.
  • Run monthly trade and mass market sales report for all Adult Imprint titles.
  • Maintain master PowerPoints for all front list titles, ensuring that they include the most up-to-date information, including but not limited to: cover images, sales copy, ISBN, US and Canadian retail prices, specifications, On Sale Dates.
  • Title plan all warehouse club answers in VMEYEs and release to laydown in a timely manner.
  • Create sales presentations for Costco Asia, Costco Australia and Costco UK.
  • Work closely with Category Managers to execute modular planning for Sam's Club.
  • Monitor sales reports, recommended titles report, finished goods report, Distributor sales reports, Insight and any other applicable reports, to ensure that data is correctly entered, and that prices, quantities, and dates are correct and up-to-date.
  • Work with Production Manager to request reprint pricing from printers and audit previous reprints to maintain optimal margins.
  • Work with packagers to obtain reprint pricing and audit previous reprints to maintain optimal margins.
  • Manage all reprint pub boards.
  • Assist Sr. Product Manager and Associate Publisher in managing correspondence with packagers.
  • Analyze problems on vendor shipments including but not limited to cost, ISBN, discount, freight terms, AP discrepancies, and delays. Make recommendations to management and implement solutions.
  • Enter drop shipment PO's into the system and working with Production Manager or Packagers and Customers to ensure accurate invoicing and delivery.
  • Submit RFC's to Accounting for cost changes- working with Editorial Director to submit WIP net cost adjustments.
  • Track all royalty at print titles, working with contracts department to ensure timely payment of invoices.
  • Work with packagers and contracts department to complete all Schedule A contracts for front list titles.
  • Track total print numbers and total print runs for all Adult Imprint titles.
  • Manage trade show inventory needs and shipments.
  • Work closely with marketing department to respond to consumer queries and to gather information as requested.
  • Communicate schedule changes and title updates to sales team.
  • Create mock ups as needed.
  • Enter creative requests for display orders and display renderings.


  • Shared Responsibilities- Operations and Sales Presentations:
  • Attend weekly logistics meeting as needed.
  • Attend weekly production meetings, and update the team on club business, P0's and sales.
  • Solve problems on a daily basis. Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Prepare sales reports, spreadsheets, and materials for presentations to pub board.
  • Prepare sales materials for sales presentations for Thunder Bay. This includes pulling samples, running historical sales, creating PowerPoint slides and shipping product to customer.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports for the VP of Publishing and Associate Publisher to have on hand at trade shows.

Job Requirements


  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, on telephone, and in written form.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Strong understanding of math and business finance terms, especially percentages and margins.
  • Experience with computers and ability to operate up to six hours per day.
  • College degree or equivalent business experience.
  • 2 years' experience in publishing related business.
  • Ability to work long hours during stressful seasonal peaks.
