Job Description

Summary: Under the supervision of the Production Director, this position works with printers, prepress houses, and other vendors on production and manufacturing to support all PRPG Imprints and co-editions. Projects include books, books plus, toys, and packaged goods. This position works very closely with the in-house product managers and co-edition contacts as well as editorial and design teams in providing print and manufacture support. This position also works in tandem with other Production and Manufacturing staff to develop projects and support one another.

 

Essential Functions:  To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production and manufacture of reprints, foreign co-editions and new titles as well. Including but not limited to: obtaining printer quotes, dummies, as well as budgeting and scheduling.
  • Manage reprints and reprint pricing for an estimated 100 reprint titles annually.
  • Work closely with Editorial and Design teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and files.
  • Offer guidance and solutions to format and file concerns that arise.
  • Maintain accurate records for all transactions, quotes and schedules.
  • Participate in brainstorming and developing creative projects.
  • Liaise with both overseas and domestic suppliers.

 

Prepress and File Prep

  • Preflight files and manage printer templates.
  • Upload files to printer’s FTP site.
  • Download proofs and PDF’s from Insite and route for approval.
  • Route and track physical proofs

 

Printing and Manufacturing

  • Review printer proofs and ensure project/color quality and design intent is met.
  • Review dummies, mock-ups and toy prototypes.
  • Traffic and monitor projects through prepress/manufacturing/proofing.

 

Production Management

  • Attend and participate in production meetings.
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, cost savings and other aspects related to the effective manufacture and distribution of printed goods.
  • Traffic all materials during layout and design.
  • Manage and maintain schedules and budget.

 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Other duties may be assigned, directed or requested.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in book, book plus or consumer product development and print production industries.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • High proficiency in efficient, effective project management and follow-through.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Proficinecy in Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Must be detail oriented and well organized.
  • Knowledge of toy safety regulations and compliance.
  • Strong problem solving, communication and negotiation skills.
  • A consummate leader and professional.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally must lift/move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision in order to view PC/CRT and written documents/reports.

 

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
  • Office environment.
