Job Description

Summary:  Direct and manage specific job functions and responsibilities associated with Walmart account activity that includes overall responsibility for product selection of all assigned categories, evaluation of product performance, interaction with Walmart purchasing and marketing departments, development and execution of marketing plans and interaction with publisher representatives.  

 

Essential Functions:  To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Provide sales support to Walmart buyer and buying office for all product related inquiries
  • Compile, manage and execute customer specific promotional schedules for assigned categories
  • Prepare and submit promotional entries for buyer in assigned categories
  • Research and prepare presentations for additional sales opportunities for locations and departments outside of regular book department location
  • Work with RMS to determine opportunities for PRPG items within assigned categories
  • Monitor sales of PRPG items and work with RMS to effectively plan sales and minimize returns
  • Select New Release and promotional items for distributions in assigned categories
  • Develop and implement sales plans based upon industry trends, seasonality, sales projections, product availability and available in store display space
  • Monitor sales performance, promotional and new release schedules and interact with Walmart buyer as needed to insure proper plan execution
  • Work with Walmart planning and financial analysts to help them understand the category, product flow, open to buy needs and promotional plans
  • Engage with company employees on all levels as needed as well as customers, merchandisers, publishers, managers, authors and licensors to advance business for assigned categories
  • Assist in creating effective planograms for modular sections and promotions as needed for assigned categories
  • Monitor vendor managed distribution and replenishment quantities and discuss in stocks, fill rates and inventory levels with buyer for assigned categories
  • Contribute to and take lead product role for assigned categories in presentation of Weekly Business Review
  • Monitor release dates, trends, events and work with procurement and replenishment to adjust distributions as needed
  • Research and monitor bestseller lists for weekly product replenishment review with buyer
  • Monitor inventory levels in stores and select items to sell down or remove
  • Compile, prepare and lead monthly roundtable presentation to buyer for assigned categories
  • Set up and merchandise seasonal and promotional displays
  • Assist in set up for customer and joint publisher meetings at RDS Bentonville and Walmart offices as needed

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Help build and maintain long-term relationships with our customers, publishers, and licensors

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects/requests
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – in person, phone, email, presentations, etc.
  • Fast learner, team player, and aggressive problem solver
  • Strong to advanced level of skills with MS Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Desire to advance and grow within the company

 

Language Skills:

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Must have excellent mathematical and analytical skills
  • Must be able to analyze sales documents to identify trends and successful product performance
  • Must be able to maintain an inventory and sales plan, and forecast inventory needs based on current sales trends

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

 

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to travel to trade shows, presentations, customer locations and corporate facilities as needed
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, team environment
